もうすぐ、小5むすめの誕生日がきます。

5年生なので11歳になります。早いものです。

いつも大人びた事を言っているので12歳かと勘違いしていましたら、訂正されました。

お父ちゃん失格です。

さて、もうケーキは予約しました。

それと、プレゼントですね。

以前から「顕微鏡が欲しい！」と熱望していましたが、きっと心変わりするだろうと思っていたので、再度この直前になって聞いてみましたところ、やっぱり「顕微鏡が欲しい！」と言います。

了解した！

ぼくの世代で顕微鏡というと、黒いボディに長方形のガラス板においたミジンコとかの微生物を見るような様子が刷り込まれています。

理科好き少年の必須アイテムのようなイメージがあります。

先入観は良くないので、ネットで調べてみると色々な形のものが出てきます。

液晶ディスプレイに表示されるもの、スマホ連携、PCに表示されるもの。

児童・生徒が個人で買ってもらうような商品はお値段的にはそれほどでもないものが多かったです。

オークションサイトを見ると、業務作業で使えるもので本格的なものがお手頃価格で入札されていました。

しかし、「顕微鏡が欲しい」小5少女の本意が掴みきれていないお父ちゃんなので、どんな用途で欲しいのかわかりません。

ただ単に、好奇心から小さいものを見てみたいだけなのか？

それとも、細かい作業をするのに拡大鏡のように利用するものが必要なのか？

「一体、どんなものに使いたいの？」と聞くと

「小さい世界を見るんだよ。だから持ち歩けてスマホで映るのがいい。」

「いいよ、じゃあ自分で選んどいてね」

「わかった。」

そんな訳で、今年の誕生日プレゼントはコンパクトな顕微鏡なんだそうです。

もう、おもちゃじゃないんだね。

What to Do for the Birthday Present?

My daughter, who is in 5th grade, will soon have her birthday.

She’s turning 11 years old. Time flies.

She always speaks so maturely that I mistook her for being 12, but she corrected me.

I’m a failure as a dad.

Well, I have already reserved the cake.

Now, it’s time to think about the present.

She has been passionately asking for a microscope for a while, but I thought she might change her mind, so I asked her again just before the birthday. She still says she wants a microscope.

In my generation, when we think of a microscope, we imagine a black body with a rectangular glass slide where you observe tiny organisms like water fleas.

It’s like a must-have item for a science-loving boy.

It’s not good to have preconceived notions, so I looked it up online and found all kinds of different microscopes.

There are ones that display on an LCD screen, connect to smartphones, and show images on a PC.

The products that are intended for children and students to buy individually weren’t very expensive.

When I checked auction sites, I found some professional-grade microscopes being bid on at affordable prices.

However, as a dad who doesn’t fully grasp why his 5th-grade daughter wants a microscope, I’m not sure what she intends to use it for.

Does she simply want to satisfy her curiosity by looking at tiny things?

Or does she need something like a magnifying glass for detailed work?

When I asked, “What exactly do you want to use it for?”

She said, “I want to see the small world. So it should be portable and work with a smartphone.”

“Okay, then pick one out yourself.”

“Got it.”

So, this year’s birthday present is going to be a compact microscope.

It’s not a toy anymore, is it?
